A new limited edition revealed for Travel Retail
Togouchi Ayumi: the expression of a new chapter
At the end of 2025, Whiskies du Monde will launch Togouchi Ayumi, a new expression created exclusively for Travel Retail. The product will make its debut in December at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and will then become available across Lagardère Travel Retail and Heinemann network in 2026.
The name Ayumi – meaning “the path taken” in Japanese – pays tribute to the remarkable journey of the Togouchi brand, produced and matured by the Sakurao Brewery & Distillery, nestled at the foot of Mount Osorakan.
This new whisky embodies the perfect balance between tradition and modernity, a signature of the Togouchi house.
A 100% Japanese creation rooted in craftsmanship and innovation
At the heart of Sakurao’s philosophy lies barley — a grain the family-owned distillery has been mastering for over a century, and the true thread connecting its history. Unlike most producers who rely on corn or wheat for their blends, Togouchi stands apart with whiskies made entirely from barley, both malted and unmalted — a rare choice that brings depth and authenticity to its style.
Togouchi Ayumi is crafted from 100% barley, including 15% malted barley, and entirely distilled at the Sakurao Brewery & Distillery in Hiroshima Prefecture. This expression is first aged in bourbon casks in a former railway tunnel beneath Mount Osorakan, where the cool, humid environment — a constant 14°C and 80% humidity year-round — allows the spirit to mature slowly and gently. It is then refined for several months in saké casks from the Sakurao Brewery & Distillery, developing a silky texture with notes of green apple, caramel, and white fruits, rounded by gentle spices and toasted nuts on the finish.
Through Togouchi Ayumi, the Sakurao Brewery & Distillery reaffirms its commitment to authentic Japanese savoir-faire — uniting craftsmanship, terroir, and innovation to express the true spirit of Japan.
